Activity 1 – Teacher education “Martin Sekulić”

The mentioned activity was inspired by Nikola Tesla’s education, and Martin Sekulić, who taught him electrical engineering, is particularly important among his professors. Although it is rarely mentioned today, Martin Sekulić and his ingenious experiments are responsible for choosing electrical engineering as Nikola Tesla’s life path. The initial step for the implementation of this activity refers to the creation of a situational analysis with which we want to check the interest of students related to the STEM field. After an extensive analysis of the situation, the result of which will be a document, the next step will be the preparation of a study for the introduction of new STEM programs in elementary schools. The study will include up to 15% of the content that schools independently propose in accordance with legal regulations, i.e. it will be adapted to the following subjects: physics, biology, mathematics, informatics, and the STEM area will be focused on STEM technologies in meteorology and climatology and robotics. The study will be made in digital form and published on the web platform of the newly founded regional center RaSTEM, which will enable the durability and availability of data. The implementation of the e-platform will be used to monitor students through the “Rastem” method, which is planned to monitor students who participate in the project proposal during elementary, high school, and college education in order to enable them to further develop in an entrepreneurial sense through scholarships and other forms of support. Support and consulting for the preparation of the study will also be provided by the partner Oslo Metropolitan University, who will be in charge of the audit, supervision and control of the program documents that will result from this activity. The goal is to train 1 to 2 teachers from each primary school of the partners and participants, or a minimum of 15 teachers who will undergo 120 hours of trainer training. The preparation of the trainer training program will last 3 months. Relevant experts from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and representatives of the Croatian Robotics Association will be in charge of teacher education. Elementary school teachers who have completed the mentioned program will receive a certificate of participation, with which they will be able to carry out a teacher education program in the STEM field in schools that did not participate in the project, as well as educate students from their home schools, which is also part of activity 2. Through this activity a program will be created for people with special educational needs. As part of this activity, primary school teachers will participate in at least 1 seminar/conference related to the STEM field in order to further strengthen their knowledge and skills related to the STEM field. The duration of the activity is spread over 12 months, in the first three months, programs will be developed that will be applied in the STEM field, from 3-6 months, teacher education will be carried out, and in the remaining six months, experts will participate in the development of programs for the education of teaching assistants , as well as the development of future education (summer stem camps, hackathons, field teaching workshops, etc.) and the program of the newly established Regional Science Center.
