Activity 2 – Education of the “New Nikola Tesla” students

Through the activity of student education – “New Nikola Tesla” in the framework of extracurricular activities, we apply the educational program developed through the activity “Teacher Education – Martin Sekulić”. At least 200 students and 5 students with special educational needs (learning difficulties) will be educated. After the training of the trainers, which the primary school teachers participating in the project will go through activity 1, the goal is to educate the students of primary schools where the teachers are employed through activity 2, and this is also the central activity of the project. Education will be held in 2 cycles, where one is for the field of STEM technologies in meteorology and climatology, and one is for the field of robotics. It is about education in the STEM field for elementary school students for the duration of 2 cycles of 60 hours each (120 hours in total), 10 hours will be done per month, in order to fulfill the quota of 60 hours for a period of 6 months, i.e. education in the field STEM technology in meteorology and climatology will be held from 7 to 13 months, and education in the field of robotics for 11-17 months of project implementation. Three “Children’s hackathons” lasting 3 days will also be organized for students. Of the three hackathons, one will be intended for the field of robotics, (will be held in the 19th month of project implementation), the second will be intended for the field of STEM technologies in meteorology and climatology, (will be held in the 15th month of implementation) and the third will be intended for the field of entrepreneurship ( will be held in the 17th month of implementation). The number of participants in each individual hackathon is 50 students, a total of 150 students will participate in all three hackathons. Experts from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the Croatian Robotics Association will be in charge of developing and designing the hachathon program, as well as designing the education and summer camp program called “STEM camp RASTEM”. where a total of 205 elementary school students will develop the skills of hand coordination, increased readiness and ability to work in a children’s group, creative and spatial thinking skills. The summer “STEM camp RASTEM” is designed in such a way as to stimulate imagination and creative thinking, as well as stimulate interest in science. It will be organized in 3 cycles, each lasting seven days, one will focus on the field of robotics, one on the field of climatology and meteorology, and one on the field of entrepreneurship, and will be held from the 14th to the 20th month of project implementation. The number of students who will participate in at least one STEM summer camp is 65 students. Through the program, students will learn the basics of 3D modeling and 3D printing, basics of robotics, work on projects – remote control of robotics, game programming in the Scratch programming language, introduction to micro:bit, introduction to 3D design and TinkerCAD application, technologies in climatology and meteorology and Fig. Field classes with a workshop will be organized, with a total duration of 54 hours distributed over 3 cycles of 3 days (minimum 25 students per day). The goal is for students to visit entrepreneurs (start-ups, digital nomads) whose business is related to the STEM field and participate in specialized workshops through the organization of field classes.
