As part of the “RaSTEM” project at the fortress of St. Ivana hackathon from entrepreneurship, robotics and climate change

As part of the “Regional Science Center – RaSTEM” project, the city of Šibenik is organizing a series of hackathons, which will be held at the fortress of St. John during November and December. This series of hackathons is aimed at encouraging creativity and innovation among primary school students and provides an opportunity to develop skills in the fields of robotics, entrepreneurship and climate change.

Hackathons will be held in three sessions. First up is the entrepreneurship hackathon, on November 25, 2023, during which students will work on topics from the field of student cooperatives, i.e. creating services for manufacturers. Then, on December 2nd, a robotics hackathon will be organized where, through the assembly, programming and management of robots, the students will have the task of preparing their robot as best as possible for the tasks they will be given at the very beginning of the hackathon. The last is a climate change hackathon scheduled for December 9. Topics such as melting glaciers, forest fires and rising seas will be the backbone of the hackathon, and through play and the fun of working in teams, the best developed idea will win.

Elementary schools from the area of ​​Šibenik-Knin County can apply to participate in hackathons. There can be several teams from the same elementary school, and there must be at least five students in the team. The best three teams of each hackathon expect prizes, and applications are available at the following links: entrepreneurship , robotics and climate change .

Otherwise, the “Regional Science Center – RaSTEM” is financed from the EEA financial mechanism for the period from 2014 to 2021 and within the framework of the implementation of the “Local Development and Poverty Reduction” Program. The goal of the project is to establish the synergy of the development of formal and informal education for the purpose of developing a program for the STEM field, divided into two parts; one for students, the other for teachers. Five elementary schools founded by the City of Šibenik participate in the project, namely: Juraj Dalmatinac Elementary School, Juraj Šižgorić Elementary School, Meterize Elementary School, Vrpolje Elementary School, and Brodarica Elementary School with regional schools. Elementary schools from Murter and Skradin are also included. The partners in the project are the Croatian Robotics Association, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing from Zagreb and the University of Oslo.
