This Saturday, the robotics hackathon that brought together a talented group of elementary school students was successfully completed, who had the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge by assembling and programming robotic educational sets.
Seven elementary school teams from the Šibenik-Knin County participated in the hackathon, and it was held on the campus at St. John’s Fortress.
The event started with an introductory lecture, after which the elementary school students were organized into teams in two halls. Connecting the teams was realized through the tasks of assembling robots according to the needs of the track, which was designed in advance to show all the possibilities that one robot can perform – moving along lines, turning corners, recognizing colors, obstacles, and the like.
Each team had the opportunity to present how to approach the programming of the robot according to the given points on the track in front of the judges and the audience. Teams were evaluated on the basis of passing six points that were given at the beginning of the competition.
Competitors fought for high prizes that contributed to the dynamism and energy of the participants – the first place was won by the Meterize Elementary School team, the second place was won by the Vrpolje Elementary School team, and the third place was won by the Jurjo Šižgorić Elementary School team.
We remind you that the last hackathon, the one on climate change, takes place on December 9. Topics such as melting glaciers, forest fires and rising seas will be the backbone of the hackathon, and through play and the fun of working in teams, the best developed idea will win.
Elementary schools from the area of Šibenik-Knin County can apply to participate in hackathons. There can be several teams from the same elementary school, and there must be at least five students in the team. The best three teams of each hackathon also expect prizes, and the registration is on the link.
Hackathons are conducted as part of the “Regional Science Center – RaSTEM” project, which is financed from the EEA financial mechanism for the period from 2014 to 2021 and within the implementation of the “Local Development and Poverty Reduction” program. The city of Šibenik is the project holder.
